Join Us for the Annual Hall of Fame Alumni Awards Dinner on September 10
As part of the College of Social Work Alumni Society’s Reunion Weekend festivities, Dr. Tom Gregoire, dean, cordially invites all alumni and members of the professional community to join him for the Annual Hall of Fame Alumni Awards Dinner. The college will honor four alumni for their distinguished contributions to the profession.
This year’s honorees include Shannon Easter, MSW ’00, director of Clinical Services of Faith Mission at Columbus Lutheran Social Services; Patrick Leung, BSSW ’81, MSW ’82, PhD ’86, professor and director of the Office for International Social Work Education and Social Work Research Center at the University of Houston; Monit Cheung, MSW ’82, PhD ’86, professor at the University of Houston and clinical social worker/child sexual abuse expert witness; and Jack Rothman, MSW ’51, professor emeritus of the School of Public Affairs at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Ain Scholarship Recipient Uses New Hand-Cranking Bicycle to Participate in Pelotonia
Brent Simonds, MSW ’05, was the only Pelotonia rider this year pedaling with his hands. Paralyzed, he used a new hand-cranking bicycle to ride in memory of his father who died at age 46 after battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Simonds was 16 at the time. When he’s not cycling, Simonds works as an advocacy coordinator with the Mid-Ohio Board for an Independent Living Environment (MOBILE). College Well Represented at Social Work Congress
Ohio State social work students participated in the 2010 Student Social Work Congress this spring, held virtually and originating out of Washington, D.C. Dr. Keith Anderson’s class, Social Work 695.14 Integrative Seminar: Aging, was selected to take part in conjunction with the Social Work Congress, bringing to the table 400 social work students in classrooms across the United States.
